The leader of Poland's largest trade union will visit Dublin next Monday to discuss efforts to protect migrant workers' rights.

Mr Janusz Sniadek, president of the polish trade union Solidarnosc, will hold talks with Siptu officials at Liberty Hall and then attend the Irish trade union's mid west Regional Conference in Waterford.

Both organisations are involved in a joint programme aimed at encouraging Polish workers employed in Ireland to join a trade union to secure their rights.

Siptu said there are an estimated 174,000 Polish workers in Ireland.
