At a preliminary inquiry at Craigavon Magistrate's Court yesterday, a police officer was returned for trial on charges of dishonestly obtaining cheques to Craigavon Crown Court on January 6th.

Mr John David Alexander Jeffers (35), whose address was given as Castlehill RUC Base, Dungannon, is charged with having between July 15th and (August 31st 1992 dishonestly obtained from the NIIB Group Ltd a cheque for £6,000 by falsely representing he had purchased a 1990 Mercedes for £12,000 from Richhill Car Sales. He is also charged with obtaining from L. Hughes & Co a Bank of Ireland cheque for £6,141 made payable to himself by falsely representing the car was stolen in Fitzwilliam St, Belfast, on June 8th 1993.

The magistrate, Mr John Meehan, granted Mr Jeffers personal bail of £1,000.
