Pedestrian killed in Co Louth

A pedestrian died in Co Louth last night after he was struck by a car on the main road connecting Ardee and Carrickmacross.

A pedestrian died in Co Louth last night after he was struck by a car on the main road connecting Ardee and Carrickmacross.

The incident occurred between 9.45 and 10pm on the N2 at Edmundstown on the main route connecting Dublin and Derry.

A Garda spokesman said the man was in his 40s. He was taken to Louth county hospital.

The Garda crash investigation unit attended the scene. A Garda spokesman said that the road would remain closed for a time this morning to facilitate forensic investigation of the scene.

The Garda are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Ardee Garda station on 041 6853222.
