PDs ruling body meeting tomorrow

The national executive of the Progressive Democrats is meeting tomorrow to discuss the party's future following its general election meltdown.

The party lost six of its eight Dáil seats. Among the losses were Tanaiste, Minister for Justice and party leader Michael McDowell. Deputy leader Liz O'Donnell and party president Tom Parlon also lost their seats.

The party has been left with Galway West TD, and founding member, Noel Grealish and Minister for Health Mary Harney. Ms Harney has been asked to take over as leader only months after her departure after Mr McDowell said he was bowing out of politicis.

There have been some suggestions since the general election that the party may rejoin the Fianna Fail party.

A spokesman for the Progressive Democrats confirmed today that the party's 21-member ruling body would meet tomorrow.

"In the aftermath of the election, there are quite a few logistical and practical matters to be discussed," he said.
