London - The Paymaster General, Mr Geoffrey Robinson, last night made a brief, one-minute personal apology to the House of Commons for failing to declare various directorships in the Register of Members' Interests.

The government is hoping that his personal statement, heard in silence by MPs as is traditional, marks the end of an embarrassing string of allegations against the Treasury Minister.
