A Palestinian boy (14) was killed and 10 other children injured today as gunfire erupted around a school in a West Bank village close to Jenin during an Israeli army raid, Palestinian medics said.
Majdi Khaliliyeh was shot in the head as Israeli forces surrounded the village school in Jarba, around 15 kilomtres south of Jenin in a self-rule Palestinian area, the medics said.
Elsewhere Israeli tanks and troops raided a West Bank village near Hebron today, killing two Palestinians, Palestinian security sources said.
They identified one of the dead in the village of Bani Naim as Yaqoub Mohammed alSarayrah, a local leader of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's Fatah faction. The sources said four Palestinians were wounded and 15 detained.
Witnesses said a helicopter fired missiles into a cave while tanks and bulldozers moved through the village.
The Israeli army had no immediate comment. Israeli Army Radio said special forces raided the village to search for Islamic militants.
"I saw soldiers barring ambulances from entering", a villager said.
In the village of Dahariyeh, south of Hebron, Israeli forces arrested 17 Palestinians overnight and broke into offices of Mr Arafat's Palestinian Authority and Islamic organisations, confiscating files, witnesses said. The army had no immediate comment.
