The death has taken place at his home in Cullen, Co Cork, of Mr Padraig O hIci, a life-long worker for the restoration of the Irish language.
Mr O hIci was prominent for many years in Conradh na Gaeilge and was one of the founders of Daonscoil na Mumhan, the longest-running annual summer school in Ireland, which is held entirely through Irish in the Ring Gaeltacht in Co Waterford since 1953.
Mr O hIci was active in various community endeavours in the small farming country around his native Cullen and was one of that generation of Young Farmers who first established contact with farm youth movements on the continent after the second World War.
He served as a member of the Commission on the Restoration of the Irish Language, which was chaired by the late Cardinal Tomas O Fiaich from 1959 to 1964.
