One person was killed and 13 were injured when suspected Islamic rebels triggered a grenade explosion in a busy market in Indian-administered Kashmir.
A police spokesman said the grenade exploded among civilians but was intended for a police party in the town of Anantnag, 31 miles south of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian Kashmir.
"Most of the 14 people injured in the explosion were shopping in the area when the militants struck," the spokesman said.
He said one of the injured civilians, Mr Mohammed Afzal, was declared dead on arrival when he was brought to Srinagar's main hospital.
