O2 Ireland has switched on its 3G network and said today that it has begun limited services to selected business and customers.

Some 25 customers have been equipped with Nokia 6650 handsets and are connected to the O2 3G service, which increases capacity for voice and data and speeds up wireless Internet access.

The company said its 3G coverage already extends to more than 35 per cent of the population and covers major urban centres such as Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford and Kilkenny.

It said it will continue expanding the network across the country over the coming months.
