O'Connor leads Mayo revival out west
Mayo 0-13, Roscommon 0-11:Mayo roared back to win to Connacht senior football final at Dr Hyde Park this afternoon, with 19-year-old Cillian O’Connor again displaying his immense talent as he bagged eight points in the win.
In brutal conditions, defending champions Roscommon enjoyed the better of the elements in the first half, with Donie Shine scoring six points to give his side a 0-9 to 0-5 advantage at half-time.
O’Connor kept Mayo in contention by knocking over three points and they took some momentum into the break after Kevin McLaughlin pointed in injury time just before Shine missed a free.
Playing with the strong wind on the resumption, Mayo dominated proceedings and drew level just short of the hour mark when O’Connor hit his sixth point of the game.
Two more in the space of three minutes saw Mayo push two clear and although Shine reduced it to one with his eighth score in injury time, Enda Varley popped up for Mayo to put the result beyond doubt.
