People in the North are being told to return Nurofen Plus painkillers to pharmacies after it was revealed a box of the tablets sold there was sabotaged with anti-epileptic drugs.

The makers of the painkiller said late last week that several packets of the drug in England had been found to contain anti-psychotic drugs. It later emerged one box in the North contained anti-epileptic drugs.

The Irish Medicines Board has asked pharmacists to check all supplies of Nurofen Plus tablets in the Republic.

It said the UK-implicated pack size of Nurofen Plus of 32 tablets was not available on the Irish market. However “as a precautionary measure” it had initiated a recall of all packs from Irish wholesalers for checking.
