Plans by the Department of Education to modify the Leaving Cert results of students with disabilities should be shelved for a year, according to the National Rehabilitation Board (NRB).
The Department plans to put a note on the results of Leaving Cert students who are not assessed in certain areas, such as the written or aural sections, because of their disability. For example, blind students whose written ability is not assessed will have this referred to in a note on their certificate.
The NRB said the Department should reconsider the idea and consult education interests over the next year to work out a new and more positive approach.
