Finnish mobile telephone giant Nokia said today the global economic slowdown would hit second-quarter results and downgraded its sales growth forecast from 20 to below 10 per cent.

The price of shares in the company slumped by 16 per cent immediately after the announcement.

"Nokia expects weaker market conditions to impact its financial performance during the second quarter," the group said in a statement.
