A Northern Ireland student has been jailed for sparking a security alert at an RAF base in England by sending a joke letter filled with talcum powder.
Anthony McLoughlin (19), from Limavady, Co Derry was given a three month sentence for sending a package containing talcum powder and a note which said: "Post people, I have enclosed anthrax. You will die."
McLoughlin, who is studying for a geography degree at Queen's University, Belfast, cried as he was led from the dock at the court in King's Lynn, Norfolk.
Magistrates were told that McLoughlin sent the letter to his friend Andrew Deighan, an airman at RAF Marham near King's Lynn in June.
The court heard that a clerk at the base became suspicious about the package and instigated security procedures.
