The offices of the Limerick Leader newspaper in Limerick City are under police protection tonight after a threat was made to burn the premises to the ground.
The threat is believed to be connected to a story the newspaper ran about a feud between rival families in the city.
On Wednesday afternoon, a man with a strong Limerick accent called the office, situated in the centre of the city, saying he "didn't want an end to this feud" and threatening to "torch" the newspaper building unless it retracted details in a story in its morning edition.
The article quoted a brother of the late Eddie and John Ryan, following a peace mass at St Lelia's church in Ballynanty on Tuesday saying that he wanted an end to the violence.
Hughie Ryan said that the mass was a "good move" and hopefully would "bring peace for once and for all".
The long-running feud in the city has so far been linked to a number of murders, the latest one being 47-year-old John Ryan, on the 7th of July.
Gardai in Henry Street station in Limerick, just a few yards from the offices of the regional newspaper, said that they have received a complaint from the newspaper and the matter is being investigated.
