Nephew of Michael Smurfit dies in London

An heir to the Smurfit business empire died on Sunday after being found on fire in a London churchyard, it has emerged.

An heir to the Smurfit business empire died on Sunday after being found on fire in a London churchyard, it has emerged.

Jason Smurfit (35) was alive when he was found but died shortly afterwards. He was discovered by parishioners at St Martin's Catholic Church in the London borough of Hounslow at around 2.30pm on Sunday afternoon.

An coroners inquest into his death started today, but police do not believe the death is suspicious.

It is understood that representatives of the Smurfit family are in London to arrange for the body to be brought back to Ireland.

Mr Smurfit was the son of former chairman of the Smurfit Group, Jeff Smurfit, and nephew of billionaire Michael Smurfit.
