Pristina - The security of Kosovo is "now the responsibility of KFOR alone," Gen Michael Jackson, commander of NATO forces in Kosovo, said yesterday.

This follows Monday's signing of an agreement to transform the Kosovo Liberation Army into a Kosovo Protection Corps.

During a joint press conference with UN civil administrator Mr Bernard Kouchner, who enacted an ordinance creating the Corps, Gen Jackson said "the conditions of repression here in Kosovo that forged the KLA had gone.

"The full and successful demilitarisation of KLA marks the end of one era and the beginning of another," he said.
