Senior loyalist politicians met UVF prisoners in the Maze Prison yesterday in an effort to defuse tensions over searches and head counts at the prison.

After meeting some of the Maze's 90 loyalist prisoners yesterday morning, Mr David Ervine and Mr Billy Hutchinson of the Progressive Unionist Party, which is linked to the UVF, said some progress was made on the issue, although more work was necessary to achieve a resolution.
