MOTORISTS USING the N4 junction with the M50 should expect some disruptions until next Thursday, due to ongoing upgrading works, South Dublin County Council has warned.

Outbound traffic on the N4 wishing to get to the M50 will be diverted via the Liffey Valley roundabout and back on to the N4 inbound, from where they can get to the M50 northbound and southbound.

Motorists have also been warned that work is to get under way on phase two of the upgrade between Sandyford and Scholarstown, with lane changes to be made from this morning. The council said barriers would divert southbound traffic on to the hard shoulder and slow lane. This diversion is expected to be in place until the autumn.

An emergency lane will be in place, and an emergency telephone service is available on 1800 775 050. A speed limit of 60km/h will apply during these works. South Dublin County Council asked that motorists allow extra time for their journey.

Meanwhile the National Roads Authority has said the N4 interchange is on schedule for completion by the end of next month. From that time most journeys through the interchange will not involve stopping at traffic lights.

The completion date for the whole of phase one was initially put at summer 2008 although this was subsequently changed to August 2008. The project website has recently dropped references to months, setting the completion date for phase one as 2008.

A spokesman for the NRA said there had been no changes to the schedule.
