A 49 year old Cistercian monk is to stand trial charged with raping a woman almost 10 years ago. Father Gerard John McCallion, a native of Lifford in Co Donegal, pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned at Derry Crown Court yesterday.

The defendant, who also denies three charges of indecently assaulting the same woman, was returned for trial on bail. The offences are alleged to have occurred between June 2nd and November 30th, 1987.
