Moscow - Russian space officials said yesterday the Mir space station will be dumped on Friday, one day later than planned, while the parliament speaker made a last-minute public appeal for President Vladimir Putin to grant the ageing station a reprieve.

Space officials had previously set Mir's controlled descent into the South Pacific for early on Thursday, but said it would be postponed because the station's orbit was dropping more slowly than expected.
