Fine Gael has criticised the Minister for Justice for not tackling gun-related crime, after an armed gang escaped with about £50,000 in cash from a Dublin hotel.

The raid occurred at around 3 a.m. yesterday at the Three Rock Hotel in Rathfarnham.

In a statement Fine Gael's justice spokesman, Mr Jim Higgins, accused the Minister, Mr O'Donoghue, of failing to take effective action to "stamp out the escalating spate of armed robberies and gun attacks". Mr Higgins said that in the first two weeks of the new millennium there had been three murders and three armed robberies.
