Danny Mills has opened talks with Leeds over a new five-year contract, his advisor has revealed today.

The England full-back, who scored the opening goal in Monday's 3-0 win at Bolton, has two-and-a-half years to run on his current deal.

Mills' advisor Neil Featherby has held preliminary talks with the club over a new deal and chairman Peter Ridsdale is currently considering what package to offer the 25-year-old.

It is thought that Mills wants to double his wages from £20,000 per week to more than £40,000 - which would put him among the highest earners at Elland Road.

But Leeds have debts in the region of £70m and are looking at ways of cutting costs.

Featherby told BBC Sport Online: "We've had initial talks with the chairman with reference to a new contract for Danny and I would like to think they were positive.

"Now Peter Ridsdale has gone away to digest what we have put to him and the ball is in his court now. We will wait for him to come back to us."
