Midwives will be allowed prescribe

Nurses and midwives will prescribe medication "in appropriate circumstances" as part of a pilot project by An Bord Altranais. Until now prescribing medication has been done by doctors only. The project, which will begin in January, was recommended following the board's Review of Scope of Practice for Nurses and Midwives. The final report is due later this week.
