Men jailed for drugs trafficking

Two men involved in amphetamine-trafficking were jailed yesterday

Two men involved in amphetamine-trafficking were jailed yesterday. Gareth Quinn (21), described in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court as the operation's entrepreneur, was jailed for four years. Judge Patrick McCartan heard Quinn was earning £1,000 a week from selling amphetamines when arrested. His co-accused, Stephen Clarke (20), was jailed for 2 1/2 years.

Det Garda Tom McManus said Clarke admitted he worked two days a week for Quinn and was paid £30£40 for each drug consignment moved. He added that members of the Tallaght Drugs Unit led by Sgt Gearoid Begley searched both men's houses, and items discovered there led to a rented flat at Kenilworth Road in Dublin where drugs worth £36,000 and drugdealing equipment were discovered.

Clarke, of Tymon North Lawns, and Quinn, of Aonghus Park, both Tallaght, Dublin, pleaded guilty to having amphetamines worth £36,300 for sale or supply on September 5th, 1997.
