A group of men who claim they were recruited as secret agents for anti-terrorist missions in Northern Ireland are to meet an official from the Department of Foreign Affairs shortly.

The men say that the British army trained and equipped loyalist death squads and encouraged assassinations and bombing missions.

A Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman confirmed yesterday that they had written to the Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, and that a meeting had been arranged with an official from the Department.

It is expected the meeting will take place the week after next. It is understood the Government considers it to be routine. The men will be met by a middle-ranking official.
