Dublin Bus management and unions are meeting senior Garda officers today to discuss the safety of crews on a number of bus routes.

Several bus services to Finglas South and West have been curtailed this Easter weekend due to attacks on drivers and buses in the area.

The 40, 40A, 40B and 40C will terminate at Finglas village from 7pm onwards, while the 40D and the 220 will bypass the Finglas housing estates and continue on to Blanchardstown, after 7pm.

"We don't want to reduce services, but the safety of passengers and drivers has to be our first concern," Dublin Bus said yesterday.

Siptu and the NBRU claim their members are facing unacceptable risks while working on the routes.

"On average there has been one attack per night over the past three weeks, at all times of day and evening," Siptu shop steward at the Harristown depot John McCamley said.

"Windows have been broken and it is only a matter time until there is serious injury to passengers or drivers."
