EDITORS, journalists and other interested groups will discuss the implications of the murder of journalist Veronica Guerin at a seminar in Dublin next week.

Robert Fisk, Middle East Correspondent of the London Independent, will speak on "The Journalist and Democracy", while William Orme, executive director of the New York based Committee to Protect Journalists, will discuss the challenges facing investigative journalism in Western democracies.

Ms Guerin's husband, Mr Graham Turley, will be presented with the highest honour of the National Union of Journalists and be made a member of honour.

The seminar, entitled "Seek the Truth", would lay the basis for a greater resolve to give resources to investigative journalists, said the secretary of the NUJ, Mr Eoin Ronayne. As well as journalists, Government ministers, politicians, trade union leaders, media academics and media students have been invited to attend.

Mr Ronayne said that the seminar was a signal to those responsible for Ms Guerin's death that journalists were resolute in continuing the "pursuit of truth".
