MARSH'S Library beside St Patrick's Cathedral has to be one of the nicest venues for an exhibition and it was crowded on Thursday night for the opening by President Robinson of Echoes of Splendour, a fascinating exhibition of rare music manuscripts.

A German television crew, here to follow the President around on an average day, looked suitably exhausted.

In the throng were Loretta Brennan Glucksman and her daughter Katie, Billy Vincent, Veronica Dunne, Maurice Craig, Trinity Provost Professor Tom Mitchell, Barbara Fitzgerald Sweetman, Dean Maurice Stewart of St Patrick's Cathedral, Antonio Cosenza, acting director of the Italian Cultural Institute, Professor Brian O'Farrell, Arnold Hermans Netherlands ambassador, and Peter Lengensberg of the Netherlands embassy with his wife Mieke.
