CAPE TOWN - President Nelson Mandela's cabinet decided yesterday that Robben Island, the sandstone prison where he spent 18 of his 27 years in jail, should become a Museum of the Freedom Struggle of South Africa.

Robben Island has served as a lunatic asylum, leper colony and prison throughout the 340 years since European settlers arrived.
