A man in his late 30s received a leg wound in Limerick yesterday when shots were fired by a passenger on a motorcycle.

Gardai said the man was standing next to the person believed to have been the intended victim at a garage on Greenhills Road, Garryowen, when the shooting occurred. He was injured in the lower leg but was discharged from the Mid-Western Regional Hospital yesterday evening.

The man had been talking to the intended victim, who had left his car at the garage for repairs.

At least two shots were fired from a handgun at 3.15 p.m. before the motorcycle sped off. Residents in the area were being interviewed for a description of the motorcyclist, the passenger and the motorcycle involved. The two were wearing helmets and dark clothing.

No motive for the shooting had been established yesterday.
