A Belfast man (25) is recovering in hospital after being shot once in the leg

A Belfast man (25) is recovering in hospital after being shot once in the leg. Police suspect the attack was carried out by loyalist paramilitaries.

The victim was discovered near Rockview Street in the Donegall Road area at 10.30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Families Against Intimidation and Terror (FAIT) yesterday accused loyalist groups of being responsible for more so-called "punishment" beatings and shootings than any other paramilitaries this year.

Meanwhile, several arrests were made at 11.30 a.m. yesterday in the Mallusk area, on the outskirts of north Belfast. An RUC spokesman described the arrests as part of an inquiry into theft.
