A man who twice attacked his mother, breaking her finger and burning her arm, walked free from court yesterday with a probation and Community Service order.

Dungannon Crown Court Judge Stephen Fowler told Francis Devine (20) he should consider himself “extremely lucky” to be receiving such a sentence but the judge also imposed a two-year restraining order, barring Devine from harassing or threatening his mother.

Devine, who now lives with his father in Millside Crescent Park, Claudy, had pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm to Jacqueline Devine on March 28th and June 17th last year.
