Air accident investigators are opening an inquiry into a fatal glider crash in Co Kilkenny yesterday.

Martin Mulhall, a well-known local businessman in his late 70s, died after the glider he was flying overshot the runway at Kilkenny airport yesterday and crashed in a nearby field.

The crash at Holdensrath, about two miles outside Kilkenny city, happened at around 5.30pm.

A postmortem is due to be held at St Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny.
