THE father of a two year old boy stabbed to death last year has been jailed for three months.

Jasper Kraus (40) a Dutch national, was convicted at Ballinasloe District Court yesterday of a breach of the peace in April.

Evidence was given that he had threatened to kill a nine year old local girl who he alleged had called him a werewolf.

In court yesterday Kraus's solicitor, Mr Gearoid Geraghty, claimed his client was being tainted by his neighbours with some thing he had nothing to do with.

He told the court he had put up with name calling and racist remarks from locals since moving into a housing estate last November.

The mother of the child alleged to have called him a werewolf gave evidence that all the children in the area were scared of Kraus.

Jailing Kraus for three months, Judge James O'Sullivan said that because of the threat to kill children he had no alternative. "I would be failing the people of Ballinasloe if I allowed this man to walk free."

Kraus is to appeal the sentence.
