Man in court over fatal north Dublin stabbing

A man appeared in court today in relation to a fatal stabbing in north Dublin over the weekend.

A man appeared in court today in relation to a fatal stabbing in north Dublin over the weekend.

Gertautas Suslavicius (21), a Lithuanian national, was charged with assault causing serious harm to a 24-year-old in Santry in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The victim, also Lithuanian, suffered a single stab wound to the chest. He later died in Beaumont Hospital.

The incident happened at the accused's home in Oak Avenue, Santry, shortly after midnight. He was arrested nearby later that morning.

Dublin District Court heard that the defendant made no comment when charged with the attack.

A request was made to the court for the defendant to undergo psychiatric assessment. Psychiatric reports from Lithuania are also being obtained.

Legal aid was granted and the man was remanded in custody until August 3rd.

The victim has not yet been identified as all family members have not been notified of his death.
