Man held over Dundalk cannabis seizure

A man has been arrested in connection with the seizure of herbal cannabis valued at €150,000 in Co Louth last night.

A man has been arrested in connection with the seizure of herbal cannabis valued at €150,000 in Co Louth last night.

The 15 kilos of cannabis were discovered in Dundalk following a joint a operation involving Customs officers and gardaí.

The man, a 53-year-old South African, had arrived in Dublin Airport yesterday on a flight from Johannesburg via Amsterdam.

He was arrested in at around 10pm and is being held under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act at Dundalk Garda Station. He is expected to be brought before a court later today.

A Garda spokesman said the operation was part of a nationwide campaign targeting Nigerian drugs gangs.
