A man has been arrested in England on foot of a European bench warrant which was issued after the murder of Noel Crawford in Limerick four years ago. The suspect, who is aged 20 and from Limerick city, was held over the weekend. It is expected that extradition proceedings will be initiated this week.

Mr Crawford was shot outside his parent’s house in O’Malley Park, Southill, on December 18th, 2006, as he celebrated his 40th birthday. Gardaí believe the father of six was mistakenly shot and a relative has said he believes he was the intended target.

Mr Crawford had no criminal background and worked as a part-time security man at a shopping centre in Limerick.
