Man held after €216,000 cannabis find

A 35-year-old man was arrested at Dublin airport today after Customs officers seized €216,000 worth of herbal cannabis.

A 35-year-old man was arrested at Dublin airport today after Customs officers seized €216,000 worth of herbal cannabis.

A statement from the Revenue Commissioners said 18 kilogrammes of the drug was found by a specially trained search dog.

Customs officers believe the drugs were brought into Dublin airport on a flight from Johannesburg via Zurich.

"The find was made when drug dog 'Thatcher' gave an indication the passenger was carrying drugs. When Customs officers examined his suitcase they found it packed with cannabis," the statement added.

A man is being held at Santry Garda station in Dublin.
