A man in his early 40s is expected to appear before Dublin District Court this morning in connection with the stabbing of a 15-year-old youth who is in an ill but stable condition in Dublin's Mater Hospital.

The man, who was arrested early yesterday morning, is expected to be charged under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

After the arrest, the man was taken into custody in Whitehall Garda station.

The victim was found in a collapsed state at the junction of Griffith Avenue and Ballymun Road at 12.20 a.m. on Saturday morning with what gardai described as a severe stomach injury.

The Mater Hospital last night said the injured youth had undergone surgery and was in intensive care.
