Man drove into victim, court told
A man killed his sister-in-law's husband by driving a van into him and dragging him for some 500 m still trapped under the vehicle, Dublin Circuit Criminal Co urt has heard. The court also heard that the deceased man's wife and his sons - 14-year-old twins and a four-year-old boy - were in the front seat of the vehicle at the time of the incident.
The accused, Mr Stephen Graysmark (41), a plumber, of Tallaght, Dublin, was driving under the influence of alcohol, Mr George Birmingham, prosecuting, told the jury in his opening address. Mr Graysmark has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter, dangerous driving causing death and drink driving on August 30th, 1999 on Font hill Road South, Clondalkin.
Mr Birmingham told the jury that the victim, Mr James Malone (32), of Lucan, and his wife, and the accused man and his wife had spent most of the previous day in each other's company.
Mr Birmingham said the jury would hear from two witnesses who saw the van making contact with Mr Malone.
