A man has died after his van plunged off a cliff in Co Mayo this morning.
The vehicle left the road on Achill Island at around 2.50am.
After an extensive rescue operation divers discovered the van and its occupant, understood to be a local man.
His body has now been removed from the water.
The alarm was raised by two people who observed the van entering the water between Keem Bay and Dooagh.
Gardai worked together with local lifeboat and cliff rescue teams to comb the area. The Coastguard helicopter from Sligo also assisted in the search.
A garda spokesman said the incident was being treated as a tragedy.
