Gardai in Gort, Co Galway, detained a man yesterday in connection with two robberies of banks in Co Galway and Co Laois last week. The man, who was being held at Gort Garda station, was detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. He was being questioned about the theft of £2,000 from a branch of Allied Irish Banks in Gort, and £6,000 from a branch of the Bank of Ireland in Abbeyleix, Co Laois, the same day.
