A young woman escaped injury after being robbed by a man wielding a blood-filled syringe in the centre of Sligo on Sunday night.

A Dublin man was arrested in a follow-up operation and appeared in court in Dowra, Co Cavan, yesterday. Mr Paul Wallace (24), with an address at Woodview Cottages, Rathfarnham, was charged with robbery and being in possession of a syringe with intent. He was remanded to appear at Sligo court on Thursday.
