A man was yesterday evening remanded in custody after he was charged with the murder of a 25-year-old man in Cork city over the weekend.

Timothy O’Driscoll (33), St Rita’s Avenue, Gurranebraher, was charged with the murder of Lee McCarthy at St Rita’s Avenue on April 17th. Det Sgt Denis Lynch told a special sitting of Cork District Court that Mr O’Driscoll made no reply to the charge when it was put to him after caution following his arrest.

Insp Gary McPolin said gardaí were seeking a remand in custody with consent to Cork District Court No 2 next Tuesday, and Judge Brian Sheridan granted the application.
