A man has been charged with the murder of a baby in Co Wexford four years ago.

A man has been charged with the murder of a baby in Co Wexford four years ago.

Philip Doyle (31), of Tinakilly, Aughrim, Co Wicklow, appeared before Dublin District Court yesterday charged with murdering Ross Murphy at a house in Gorey on April 5th 2005.

Judge Patrick MacMahon remanded him in custody until June 9th to appear before Cloverhill court on that date.

Ross Murphy was four and a half months old when he was admitted to Wexford General Hospital on March 31st 2005.

He was kept under observation and released three days later. The child’s condition deteriorated and he was re-admitted to hospital, before later being transferred to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin, Dublin, where he died two days later.

After a postmortem by State pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy, gardai began a criminal investigator.
