A man was remanded in custody today charged with the murder of a young woman in Bangor, Co Down.
Mother-of-one Katie Hughes (21), was stabbed to death at an Easter house party on Monday.
Mark Wallace (25), spoke only to confirm he understood the charge during a brief hearing at Downpatrick Magistrates Court today.
District Judge Mervyn Bates said: “This is a very serious offence. You have been remanded in custody, there will be no bail application.”
Mr Wallace, from Elmwood Drive, Bangor, was arrested shortly after the killing at a house overlooking a park in the town. The gathering was a farewell party for some friends travelling to Australia.
Ms Hughes, from the Chatsworth area of Bangor, was taken to hospital but died shortly afterwards.
Detective Sergeant Walsh told the court he could connect the accused with the charge.
Mr Wallace, who wore a white sweater and tracksuit, was surrounded by prison officers during his 10-minute appearance.
He was remanded in custody until April 22nd to reappear at Bangor Magistrates Court.
