A man was arrested today for questioning about the murder of a man in Belfast.

A man was arrested today for questioning about the murder of a man in Belfast.

Joe Souter (37) died in hospital a week ago after being assaulted on the night of July 2nd. Police said he was of no fixed abode but was originally from England.

The suspect, a man in his 30s, was detained at Dunmurry on the southern outskirts of the city.

Mr Souter had stayed at several hostels in Belfast and was attacked at the junction of High Street and Victoria Street.

Police have been seeking witnesses to the assault or an attack a short time earlier in nearby Custom House Square.
