Gardaí arrested a man following a robbery at a petrol station last night.

The 29-year-old is being detained at Kevin Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for 12 hours.

Earlier, gardaí said a man entered the Statoil filling station on Usher's Quay in Dublin carrying a large knife and threatened the shop assistant. Officers on patrol in the area were alerted and arrested the man at the scene.

"Nobody was injured in the course of this incident and no property was taken," a Garda spokesman said.

"Gardaí were paying special attention to the area following a number of similar crimes which have occurred in recent weeks."
