A 42 YEAR OLD man has admitted raping his daughter and further sample charges of sexually assaulting her at their home in Co Galway over a six year period. He had originally faced a total of 18 charges but entered guilty pleas to five counts at the Central Criminal Court. He cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, who is now 18.
Mr Justice Flood remanded him in continuing custody to April 24th next and requested both probation and victim impact reports.
The defendant pleaded guilty to attempting to rape his daughter in 1986 and to committing an oral rape on her on September 20th, 1992. He also admitted to indecently assaulting her in 1986 and 1988 and sexually assaulting her in 1991.
Mr Paul McDermott, prosecuting, said the guilty pleas to the last three charges were being accepted by the State on the basis that they were sample charges.
